Reporting to the Directing Attorney, the Senior Staff Attorney will: Provide trauma-informed legal services to WGR’s clients, focusing on the areas of workplace justice and Title IX. Direct services will include providing clients with legal advice and representing clients in administrative and litigation matters; Prepare and present “Know Your Rights” trainings for community partners and members; Support WGR’s policy reform efforts at the local, state, and federal level; Participate in coalitions with community partners and stakeholders to advance our policy advocacy; Participate in impact litigation as needed;  Work with social work team members to ensure clients have access to needed supports; Assist with program development by helping to draft grant reports; Work with and provide technical assistance to pro bono volunteers as needed; Mentor and help supervise law clerk volunteers; and Other duties as assigned. Public Counsel | Consumer Rights & Economic Justice Fellow-Consumer Rights & Economic Justice Project (Los Angeles, CA) [$75,000]

The Consumer Rights & Economic Justice Fellow will assist low-income consumers across a range of debt collection & student loan matters. The CREJ Fellow will provide direct legal services, community education, and engage in systemic advocacy. This is a full-time position that will primarily involve defending low income clients in debt collection cases, assisting student loan borrowers access relief, meeting with clients and community partners, engaging in policy advocacy, making court appearances as needed, and performing related administrative and grant reporting tasks. The CREJ Fellow will be responsible for carrying out this work in collaboration with the Supervising Staff Attorney and other members of the CREJ team. Extensive training will be provided. OUF.

Reporting to OUL’s Director, the Supervising Staff Attorney will: Provide leadership within the OUL team in litigating complex federal and state impact cases to promote civil rights and economic justice. Along with the Directing Attorney, provide day-to-day supervision of OUL staff on substantive litigation matters. Responsibility for recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and reviewing OUL’s Staff Attorneys, Organizers, Paralegals, legal fellows, and student law clerks. Work on existing cases and campaigns and develop new impact litigation opportunities in collaboration with the Director of OUL, Project staff, staff in Public Counsel’s other projects, and volunteer attorneys. Assist the Directing Attorney in the management of the project, which may include grant applications and management, tracking fee recovery, management memos.
