2027 Summer Law Internship at the Impact Fund
About Impact Fund: The Impact Fund is a civil rights legal nonprofit that supports class action and other impact litigation on behalf of communities seeking economic, environmental, racial, and social justice. We do this through (1) direct litigation, (2) attorney training, and (3) legal grant-making. Our legal team works on a diverse docket of civil rights impact cases, serving as lead counsel, co-counsel, and amicus counsel. We also provide strategic leadership, training, and assistance to other legal nonprofits on issues that arise in impact litigation. Finally, we provide grants supporting impact litigation seeking systemic change. The Impact Fund is based in Berkeley, California. More information is available at www.impactfund.org.
Responsibilities: The summer law intern will be part of our legal team and work on ongoing litigation and amicus efforts, as well as other projects as they emerge. Responsibilities include conducting legal research, investigating factual issues, writing legal memos, and analyzing recent case law. The law intern joins most legal team and co-counsel meetings, where they learn first-hand about developing litigation strategies in high-impact civil rights cases. They are also invited to join multiple webinars and trainings during the summer. The internship is a full-time (40 hours per week) hybrid remote/in-person position (two in-person office days required per week) and typically requires a 10-week commitment. The law intern is paid on an hourly basis, approximately $20/hour.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, public interest, and/or civil rights issues
Cultural competency including awareness of personal attitudes, beliefs, and biases, and ability to effectively receive and communicate information across social demographics
Excellent research and writing skills
Preference for 2L students, but will consider 1L students with relevant experience and skills
