CLASS ACTION TRAINING INSTITUTE 2011

Wednesday, May 25 – Friday, May 27

The Impact Fund presented its highly successful Class Action Training Institute in San Francisco again this year. This intensive, interactive three-day program provides in-depth training for 20 attorneys in the practical and strategic aspects of a public interest class action. University of California, Hastings College of the Law co-sponsored the May 2011 program. The students shared an inspiring evening with recently appointed Magistrate Judge Donna M. Ryu, who helped develop the curriculum for the Training Institute before her elevation to the federal bench in 2009. They also had an opportunity to hear from Kelly Corbett, one of the plaintiffs in the successful gender discrimination class action, Velez v. Novartis. She recounted her experiences testifying at the class action trial. The program closed with a tremendous learning experience – a mock mediation session, overseen by JAMS mediator Martin Quinn.
